University and research in Hamburg

Hamburg's scientific landscape has gained enormous appeal in recent years, not least due to the excellence status of the University of Hamburg (UHH). With a focus on climate research (CLICCS), physics, and manuscript cultures, the university plays in the top league. This is complemented by the Hamburg University of Technology (TUHH) in Harburg, which is renowned for its engineering expertise and technology transfer.

Another heavyweight is the German Electron Synchrotron (DESY) in Bahrenfeld, one of the world's leading accelerator centers. Here, an entire district dedicated to science is currently being created in the form of “Science City Bahrenfeld.” The University of Applied Sciences (HAW) and specialized institutions such as the Bernhard Nocht Institute for Tropical Medicine also shape the location.
